International River Port to be Developed in Tripura

India's Ministry of Shipping will set up an international river port in Sonamura, Tripura, in India's northeast, connecting Gomati River, with Meghna River in Bangladesh. India’s Inland Waterways Authority approved the proposal to enable small ferries and boats to transport goods through river transit, according to Mr. Tapan Chakraborty, Industries and Commerce Minister of State.
The Ministry has allocated around $308,000 (Rs2 crore) for basic works and land acquisition, and around $194 million (Rs12.58 crore) to make the Gomati river navigable.
