India-Nepal Panel Formed to Implement Bilateral Projects
23 October 2016
A high-level panel formed by the Governments of India and Nepal will work to address bottlenecks in infrastructure projects in Nepal funded by the Government of India—including hydropower projects, cross-border transmission lines, roads and railways, and integrated checkpoints—to ensure their timely completion.
This 'oversight mechanism,' agreed during the visit of Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to New Delhi, India in September 2016, will closely monitor ongoing projects under bilateral economic and development cooperation. It will be led by the Indian Ambassador to Nepal and the Foreign Secretary of Nepal and include joint secretaries of energy, physical infrastructure and transport, commerce, finance, home affairs, irrigation, and planning.
