Bangladesh Set to Upgrade 1,752 Kilometers of Roads
18 June 2016
Bangladesh has adopted a multi-dimensional plan to upgrade 1,752 kilometers of highways to four lanes.
Bangladesh completed feasibility studies and design in June 2015 under the technical assistance for subregional road transport project preparatory facility, said Minister Obaidul Quader of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Bangladesh.
The Government of Bangladesh is already implementing the 69-kilometer Joydebpur-Chandra-Tangail-Elenga four-lane project under the SASEC Road Connectivity Project.
The Joydebpur–Chandra–Tangail–Elenga Road in the Dhaka-Northwest corridor is part of a major subregional artery in Bangladesh. Increasing road capacity and enhancing land port capacity will not only boost Bangladesh's national economy, but also facilitate subregional cooperation and increase trade.
