Nepal PM Stresses Importance of South Asia Regional Cooperation

Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr. KP Sharma Oli emphasized the importance of enhancing regional cooperation in South Asia, at the June 9 opening 2016 South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Cabinet Secretaries Meeting held in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Prime Minister noted that people in the SAARC region have high expectations for SAARC in terms of effective regional cooperation. He said that public administration should be smooth and effective in order to bring economic prosperity in South Asia.

Cabinet secretaries of SAARC member states gathered for the 2-day Meeting to discuss governance practices in the region, common issues relating to governance, and steps to improve governance in the region.

Mr. Somlal Subedi, Chief Secretary, Nepal, said in his address that good governance could be achieved by controlling corruption and ensuring that economic prosperity is achieved in an environment of inclusive development.

SAARC Secretary General, Mr. Arjun Bahadur Thapa noted significant successes in the 30-year history of the regional organization.

Chief secretaries of eight member states were present at the meeting, as well as officials representing observer nations.
