Bhutan Works Toward a More Conducive Business Environment

30 December 2024

The Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has announced that the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Employment (MoICE) is working to streamline business regulatory processes in Bhutan. This initiative follows a comprehensive review of 235 economy-related policies, supported by the Voice for Green Change Partnership and funded by the European Union. The review identified key challenges faced by the private sector, including licensing regulations, labor issues, access to finance, and tax regulations. In response, the government issued an Executive Order directing the MoICE to evaluate and simplify regulatory frameworks to reduce compliance burdens.

Bhutan aims to foster a more conducive environment for business growth and development by identifying existing barriers and proposing practical solutions. BCCI President Tandy Wangchuk emphasized the importance of addressing these challenges, stating that many business-related issues could be resolved if the private sector's submissions are considered. This collaborative effort between government and private sector stakeholders represents a significant step towards improving Bhutan's business regulatory environment.
