Nepal PM Reiterates Commitment to Well-being of Peoples of BIMSTEC Region

Speaking at the 27th anniversary of inception of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal says Nepal is committed to work for the well-being of the peoples of the BIMSTEC region. Prime Minister Dahal said regional cooperation is the key to the stability and economic prosperity in today’s complex, interconnected world.

"BIMSTEC as a region holds immense potentials and opportunities in uplifting millions of people out of poverty, establishing missing links in connectivity; expanding energy cooperation; enhancing trade, investment and tourism; keeping progress of Sustainable Development Goals and leaving no one behind," said Prime Minister Dahal in his address.

BIMSTEC was established on 6 June 1997 as an intergovernmental forum for South Asian and Southeast Asian countries to achieve economic growth and social prosperity for the BIMSTEC countries. The BIMSTEC Charter came into force in May 2024.
