8 June 2023
The India–European Union (EU) Connectivity Conference held in Meghalaya explored connectivity investments and identified potential projects for implementation in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India’s northeastern region, and Nepal. The conference held technical sessions on several themes, including digital connectivity, energy connectivity, and transport connectivity, that tackled the hurdles and bottlenecks faced by infrastructure projects.
The session on digital connectivity discussed the need for more infrastructure that would improve network penetration and building stakeholders’ digital capacity.
The session on energy connectivity discussed developing localized off–grid solutions through community participation.
The session on transport connectivity reviewed ongoing transformative infrastructure developments promoting multimodal connections in the region, and emphasized that there is need for more.
The conference was jointly organized by the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India, the EU Delegation to India, and the Asian Confluence. This is in follow up to the launch of the India-EU Connectivity Partnership at the India–EU leaders’ meet in May 2021.
Senior officials of the Government of India and India’s northeastern region, the EU Commission, North Eastern Council, stakeholders from Bangladesh, Nepal, and executives from the private sector, participated in the meeting.
