India, Nepal to Jointly Conduct Further Studies on the Sapta Kosi High Dam Project

The 9th meeting of the Joint Committee on Water Resources between the Governments of India and Nepal have agreed to move forward with the Sapta Kosi high dam project by conducting further studies. The joint team of experts is expected to convene soon.

Sapta Kosi High Dam is a multipurpose project proposed to be constructed on the Saptakoshi River of Nepal. The project will help generate hydropower and control floods in Nepal’s southeast region and India’s northern Bihar.

The meeting was held on 23 September 2022 in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was co-chaired by Mr. Pankaj Kumar, Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti of the Government of India and Mr. Sagar Rai, Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation of the Government of Nepal.
