11 August 2021

The Bangladesh Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase on 19 August 2021 approved the establishment of a Road Research and Training Center as part of the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Road Connection Project. The project was one of eight proposals approved by the committee during the virtual meeting chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.

The SASEC Road Connection Project will upgrade the Elenga-Hatikumrul-Rangpur Highway to four lanes. The highway is an important part of the SASEC corridor, Asian Highway, the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation Corridor, and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Highway.
