Nepal Signs Framework Agreement for Energy+ Cooperation

24 September 2014

The Government of Nepal signed the Framework Agreement for Energy+ Cooperation with the Government of Norway, the Government of Denmark, the Asian Development Bank and United Nations Development Program to contribute toward the actual implementation of the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative (SE4ALL). Launched by the United Nations Secretary-General, SE4ALL aims to provide universal access to modern energy services, and double the rate of energy efficiency and renewable energy by 2030.

This agreement will help improve coordination and assist Nepal in achieving universal access to sustainable energy. It may also contribute to reduction of greenhouse gases in the energy sector. Nepal is a partner of the Energy+ Partnership launched by the UN Secretary General and Norwegian Prime Minister in October 2011.

The development partners and Government of Nepal are also contributors in the improvement of renewable energy access through the National Rural Renewable Energy Program. Norway will announce increased assistance to support infrastructure and energy access initiatives in November 2014.
