The Asian Development Bank (ADB) organized a dissemination workshop on developing green ports on 29 September 2020 in Maldives. This online workshop is part of the study on green ports in the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) subregion.

The workshop aimed to

  • Provide relevant stakeholders with a deeper understanding of port greening strategies;
  • Present the findings and recommendations of the report on port greening in Maldives; and
  • Seek stakeholders’ support and guidance on the development of a green port policy and roadmap for Maldives.

Sessions were held on green port measures in energy, environmental management, financial and socio-economic feasibility. The workshop also discussed opportunities for SASEC regional cooperation in port greening.

Fifteen participants from the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, and Maldives Ports Ltd. of the Government of Maldives joined the workshop.

The workshop is supported by the ADB technical assistance "Advancing Cooperation in the Maritime Sector in the SASEC Program." It is aligned with ADB‘s efforts to advance cooperation and integration in the maritime sector and promote globally competitive ports in SASEC member countries.
