Workshop on Developing Port Community System and Port Greening Strategies

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) organized an inception workshop on developing a port community system and port greening initiatives on 3–5 December in Singapore.

The workshop 

  • Discussed the plan of approach for the development of a port community system and implementation of a green port strategy for SASEC; 
  • Reviewed options for port information sharing and processing and reducing the environmental impact of operations in SASEC ports; and 
  • Obtained consensus on the next steps of the study. 

A total of 16 participants, representing transport and shipping ministries, port authorities and other relevant agencies of Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Myanmar and Sri Lanka joined the workshop.

The workshop was part of the studies on SASEC Maritime Cooperation, and is aligned with ADB‘s efforts to advance cooperation and integration in the maritime sector and promote globally competitive ports in SASEC member countries. It was funded by the ADB technical assistance Advancing Cooperation in the Maritime Sector in South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation Program.
