Nepal DOC World Customs Day: Launch of the ASYCUDA World and its Subsystems

26 Jan 2016

The Nepal Department of Customs (DoC) formally launched the pilot implementation of ASYCUDA World and its subsystems, the Revenue Exemption module and the Deposit Management module, in Kathmandu, Nepal on 26 January 2016, led by Nepal Minister for Finance Bishnu Paudel, in celebration of the 64th International Customs Day, with the theme 'Digital Customs: Progressive Engagement.'

ASYCUDA World is a web-based system for Customs data processing and management that enables Customs officers to process Customs declaration forms, submit transit documents, and provide data on goods online. It also allows government agencies and private offices to share data electronically with the Customs office. Roll out of the system will start in the Mechi Customs Office, and be implemented gradually in other Customs offices.

Also present at the occasion were Nepal Finance Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi, Nepal Revenue Secretary Rajan Khanal and representatives from the business community.

On 24 January 2016, an ASYCUDA WORLD Mobilization Seminar discussed the functionalities and benefits of the web-based Customs automation system, with participants from the Government of Nepal and other stakeholders.

The ASYCUDA World project is financed by the Asian Development Bank loan/grant Subregional Transport Enhancement Project, which aims to improve Nepal’s trading environment by enhancing the country's road network and Customs systems.

These events are part of a week-long program organized by the Nepal DOC in observance of International Customs Day. The activities were co-financed by the Nepal DOC, the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded Subregional Transport Enhancement Project, and Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction technical assistance, administered by ADB.

International Customs Day is observed in honor of the establishment of the World Customs Organization, an independent intergovernmental body, on 26 January 1952. It is recognition of the mission of WCO members to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Customs administrations around the world.
