ADB to Finance Bhutan's Second Green Power Development Project through PPP

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved financing support to develop the Nikachhu hydropower plant—a run-of-the-river hydropower plant—in central Bhutan totaling $120.5 million in a package of loans and grants, through a public-private partnership. Power generated through the project will boost renewable energy generation in Bhutan, and further expand cross-border power trading in the region.

SASEC Total Project Investments Break $5 Billion

Since approval of the first project in 2001, $5.36 billion has been invested under SASEC in transport, energy, and trade facilitation projects. Overall, 30 SASEC projects are helping the member countries strengthen regional connectivity infrastructure, promote economic growth, and foster regional cooperation. A further $55 million has supported 54 technical assistance projects.
